Musings on Volumetric Level of Detail for Virtual Environmentsy

چکیده
This paper considers the extension of a real-time graphics renderer to support fovea enhancement|the technique of localising visual detail to the particular region of the display which the user is looking towards. This is performed by extending the standard notion of distance Level of Detail (LOD) into three dimensions to give volu-metric LOD; whereby the LOD of an object is related to its presence within a three-dimensional volume which is aligned with the user's gaze. Before introducing this technique , some background details are discussed regarding the relevant characteristics of the human visual system and current solutions for eeective gaze tracking. Subsequently, a brief cross-section of relevant research is presented and a conceptual model of volumetric LOD is formulated. Finally , implementation factors for such a system are considered and a theoretical evaluation is prooered.

Virtual Sculptor FP: A Feature Preserving Multiresolution Volumetric Sculpting System
Volumetric sculpting has been developed for years, but real application still lacks of accuracy and suffers from tremendous space consumption. To avoid these drawbacks, a multiresolution volumetric sculpting system with feature preserving is proposed. Manipulating with extended Marching Cube algorithm (EMC), features of 3D mesh model are well preserved on multiresolution isosurface. To apply EM...
متن کاملDigitalSculpture: a subdivision-based approach to interactive implicit surface modeling
This paper presents DigitalSculpture, an interactive sculpting framework founded upon isosurfaces extracted from recursively subdivided, 3D irregular grids. Our unique implicit surface model arises from an interpolatory, volumetric subdivision scheme that is C continuous across the domains defined by arbitrary 3D irregular grids. We assign scalar coefficients and color to each control vertex an...

Virtual reality environments provide highly interactive, natural control of the visualization process, significantly enhancing the scientific value of the data produced by medical imaging systems. Due to the computational and real time display update requirements of virtual reality interjiaces, the complexity of organ and tissue sulfaces which can be displayed is limited. In this paper, we pres...

In this paper, the effect of the Intake Valve Deactivation (IVDA) on engine performance is investigated in detail. Based on an optimization platform with Genetic Algorithm (GA) and engine thermodynamic model, the characteristics of the engine volumetric efficiency and pumping loss were studied under the cam-drive, Single Intake Valve (SIV) and Dual Intake Valves (DIV) operating modes, and the e...
متن کاملVisual Hull Construction Using Adaptive Sampling
Volumetric visual hulls have become very popular in many computer vision applications including human body pose estimation and virtualized reality. In these applications, the visual hull is used to approximate the 3D geometry of an object. Existing volumetric visual hull construction techniques, however, produce a 3-color volume data that merely serves as a bounding volume. In other words it la...
